How to Become a Real Estate Influencer on Instagram

Instagram is the second most popular social media platform in the world. With over 500 million users, people have found ways to share their lives, promote their business, and even make entire careers out of the app.

So how can you leverage Instagram to grow your real estate business? Well, you can use Instagram to connect with more people in your industry and community, gather a strong following, and then use that to help drum up new business! Apart from that, you have the opportunity to motivate people, advertise your services, promote listings, and even get sponsors. Who wouldn’t want that?

Here’s 5 things you need to do now to become a real estate influencer on Instagram.

1. Profile

Your profile is your calling card and tool to help you stand out among millions, so it needs to immediately catch someone’s attention. Start with the profile picture — it should be flattering, have good lighting and can either be a headshot or a picture of you in action on the job. Then update your bio. Instagram gives you only 150 characters to state what you do, who you are, and what sets you apart from other agents – so make sure you’re precise and to the point.

2. Hashtags

Hashtags are the best way for new people to find your posts. Instagram allows up to 30 hashtags per post, so it’s important that you choose ones that are relevant to the industry or topic you’re posting about. Not entirely sure which hashtags to use? Then make sure to use sites like best-hashtags.com to help you find the most effective hashtags. Pro tip: Keep all your top hashtags in a notes app on your phone to simply copy and past them every time you post.

3. Tagging

Tagging is an awesome way to get more people involved with your page. If you just sold a house to a new client, make sure to tag them in your post. Your client’s followers will be able to see that they’re tagged and in turn will see your page. It’s also a good practice to tag people that are relevant in your industry. You don’t have to know them personally, but perhaps there is an individual or a company you really look up to. If you think your post is relevant to what they do, tag them as well.

Tagging also works for locations too. So if you’re in a big city, a well known landmark, or a big industry event, tag those as well! People from all over the world can look up the location and see who has posted there, so your post will have a better chance of being seen by more people.

4. Schedule

Consistency is key on Instagram. Whether you choose to post every day, or every other day, pick a schedule, and stick to it. It’s also very helpful to designate certain days of the week for certain types of posts. Perhaps you like to post Motivational Monday quotes or do a live Q&A every friday. As long as you are consistent, it’s a very reliable way to gain more followers.

5. Following/liking

This is the best way to gain more followers. However, it requires a certain amount of dedication. To grow your following you need to like as many posts as you can of people that you admire, of your peers, of events in your community — anything that is relevant to your business and your industry. Pro tip: find an account that has similar content to yours (even better if they have a large following), and start following as many people as you can on their list. Chances are, since they follow a similar page, they will follow yours as well. Instagram is a very “tit-for-tat” platform, so it’s a lot easier to gain followers if you follow them first.
